The Thomson LiFE Library

The Thomson LiFE series. A series of consumer electronic goods for consumers who wanted a stylish design. With most of the line's products being released sometime around the beginning of the new millenium, they all have a unique design.

Now, what's the point of this page?

I made this page because I own a Thomson LiFE 9" CRT TV (Model: Sugar2, Pictured below) and am fascinated by the undocumented history of this product line. I hope to build up a collection of all Thomson LiFE products in the future.

This page will be split into various parts, one for each type of product (TV, HiFi, etc). Each part will have subcategories dedicated to the individual product. Please keep in mind that I can't document all of the models as very limited information is out there on the internet.

The Thomson LiFE 9" CRT TV came in various different colours (White, Red, Silver, Brown and Green) and names (Sugar, Sugar2 and XinoX).

Specs:

Tube Samsung 27GDC85X
Remote Thomson RCT312
Dimentions 320 x 300 x 290 mm

Power 220-240V AC, 12/24V DC (Both different plugs which can be switched by lifting a plastic tab)
Power consumption 30W, 4W (Standby)
Weight 7kg

The TV has quite a decent input selection for its size: SCART (RGB), Composite and RF (Antenna). The SCART port is located at the back of the tv, while the composite input is located at the front behind a small plastic detachable door. The TV only does mono sound, no stereo. The RF port is located at the back of the TV, left of the SCART port.

It has a very nice, sharp image (for its small size). The colours look vibrant and it has a nice tinted tube. The tube itself was manufactured by Samsung and has the model number 27GDC85X. I don't know the dot pitch exactly but all I can say is that it is very sharp. No scanlines but that is to be expected of such a small set. The remote has quite a unique design, with the top of it being the colour of the TV itself and the bottom being silver plastic.
